LABOR CONDITIONS IN MANUFACTURING
In the context of current geopolitical rivalries, and in relation to green transition policies and the restructuring of global value chains, Hungary is undergoing a process of reindustrialization. New industrial investments are creating thousands of jobs that further flexibilize the labor market, offer relatively low incomes, fragment the workforce, and pose serious occupational health and safety risks. The aim of Periféria Center is to ensure that those working under these conditions, especially in the manufacturing sector, can work in stable, safe and secure jobs along the entire value chain - in a global context where international worker solidarity is strong. To achieve this, we conduct research to learn directly from workers about their working conditions. We also share this knowledge with national and international worker advocacy organizations, including legal aid and training organizations, with whom we can work to develop a more complex intervention process to improve the situation of workers. In addition, we believe it is extremely important that a more progressive and inclusive understanding of the principles of sustainability and just transition for workers be disseminated in international and national public life, including public policy-making circles.
